The Australian Gaming Commission is implementing fresh standards online casinos for online gambling promotions. Every advertisement should display a note on the possible adverse effects of digital gambling.
From the year 2025, digital gambling ads must feature information addressing potential gambling risks.
Last update: February, 2025

A unified national strategy will introduce messages aimed at informing players about the pitfalls of gambling. The collection of messages includes:
- What are you really gambling with
- You win some. You lose some.
- Chances are you are about to lose.
- Is this a bet you really want to place?
- What is gambling really costing you?
- Ponder over what else you could be purchasing.
- What are you willing to lose today? Consider setting a deposit limit.
The included messages aim to stimulate reflection among gamblers regarding their activities and motivations. Increasing awareness about responsible gambling is crucial in combating gambling-related harm. Currently, the mandated phrase in gaming ads is ‘Responsible Gaming’. Starting next year, new phrases like What Are You Really Gambling With? are designed to provoke greater consideration among gamblers.
Messages like How Much Is Gambling Costing You, Truly? accompanied by 'For free and discreet support, dial 1800 858 858 or visit gamblinghelponline.org.au' should also form part of gambling advertisements. This initiative targets offering support for individuals recognizing their gambling addiction and those seeking help.
Amanda Rishworth, the social services minister, highlights the alarming rise of gambling issues: 'Online betting is rapidly escalating as a prominent source of gambling and losses. We've engaged with a wide array of stakeholders and primarily relied on data to craft these well-aimed messages.'
