Man Who Achieved a Multi-Million Lotto Win Decides to Go Back to Work

Oz Lotto victor shows amazing commitment to work after nabbing a $40 million jackpot
A man from Sydney reveals his dedication to work, committing to heading back to his job the day after finding out he's a newly minted multi-millionaire thanks to an Oz Lotto division one jackpot.
Just this month, a couple from Sydney Hills was about to fall asleep when they got a life-altering call. Residents of Galston received an unscheduled late-night phone call from The Lott, informing them that they were the exclusive winners of the entire division one jackpot that night, an event making them richer by $40 million.
A lesson in humility
When queried about the duo's plans for their windfall, the newly wealthy man revealed he still intended to rise early and work the next day, showcasing admirable work principles any employer would commend.
Modestly, he remarked, 'This will buy us some time. It provides us the opportunity to pursue our desires and assist those in our life who have supported us, allowing us to return the favor.'
He continued, saying, 'I've always felt as if I've won the lottery simply by living in Australia, enjoying good health, and finding my wonderful wife.'
A chance that paid off
The man's wife, who acquired the winning ticket from Kenthurst Cellars located in the Kenthurst Village Shopping Centre on Nelson Street, revealed to The Lott representative that while she generally played the Powerball, she opted to give Oz Lotto a shot this time—a decision that led to an extraordinary win for the New South Wales couple.
The couple's fortunate Tuesday night win came from an 18-game QuickPick ticket, featuring the night's winning numbers of 18, 1, 42, 33, 15, 36, and 10, alongside the supplementary numbers 9, 12, and 27—a seemingly random choice that led to stunning results.
On hearing the announcement from the lottery organizer, the woman expressed her disbelief over the phone, stating, 'I'm flabbergasted. This doesn't feel real.'
Division one prizes in 2024 to date
Thus far, this year has seen 248 division one winning tickets across a variety of lotteries in Australia, including Saturday Lotto, Powerball, and Oz Lotto. More specifically, the Western and Blue Mountains region has produced 12 division one winners since the year began, totaling around $82.45 million in winnings.
As stated on The Lott website, $988 million has been awarded in division one prizes since this year started, of which $176 million originated from the Oz Lotto game.
The highest jackpot won in Australian lottery history occurred in February this year. The unprecedented $200 million jackpot was triggered on the Powerball game and shared between two winning tickets—one owned by a woman from Queensland, the other by a couple from New South Wales.
Dreams can come true
This recent couple exemplifies how unexpectedly dreams can become reality in Australia, as their phenomenal jackpot win merely adds to an already prosperous year of lottery victories.
Since its launch in 1994 as Australia’s inaugural national lottery game, Oz Lotto has been creating millionaires, surpassing 150 thus far, and it remains robust. The most significant Oz Lotto prize won was $111 million in November 2012, divided among four tickets.
The largest single lottery prize claimed in Australian history was a $107 million win by a Sydney-based nurse in 2019 following a Powerball game.
